To Tell the Truth: Inserting Nonfiction into Fiction and Vice Versa

In literature, what differentiates fiction from nonfiction? Why do we care? The barrier between fiction and nonfiction has been breached with increasing frequency ever since Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood. We’ll consider opportunities and challenges to mixing fiction and nonfiction in writing projects, and note how differing techniques relate to the author’s purpose and skills, the topic at hand and the raw material available. Plenty of time for discussion, questions and a chance to try out some new ideas in your own writing.
